Intro

Welcome! My name is Blake Lowry and this is my online web portfolio! Art is a passion of mine and I've devoted my life to creating art for today's media. I have studied and received a degree in visual communication and graphic design. Shortly after I have worked at a handful of game studios, done contract work, and started a small indie mobile games team (www.blackhivemedia.com). I have worked on games such as Pump it Up Pro 1, 2, and Jump, numerous iOS games, Faxion Online FB extension, and many rapid prototypes & conceptual designs for Roxor Games and Fun in Motion. I have a passion for video games, specifically, but love all forms of media.

Hands-On Skill

My main area of expertise lies in conceptual design and graphic art. I have extensive knowledge of Photoshop and utilize it as an essential tool in my artwork. I do everything from digital painting to fully scalable vector artwork in it. I have experience in video editing with Adobe Priemere where I have also done animated background videos for dance games in the Pump it Up franchise. I try to get my hands in a little bit of everything to understand how they work and understand co-workers and clients as best as possible. This has had me poking around in 3D applications, game engines, audio software/equipment, among other things.

Hobbies

I have many hobbies. One of which is collecting classic video games. I have a collection of retro consoles that ranges from Intellivision to NES, Virtual Boy, Jaguar, 3DO....the list could go on forever. :D I also have a vintage cabaret Ms. Pac-Man machine my wife & I compete on! Other hobbies include making music (hope to link that soon) including chiptune (8-bit). I have made the music for a number of released iOS games such as the Guns & Ammo iOS app. I recently have been into pixel art as I love t3h retro. I keep in shape by weight lifting daily. I love movies - Some of my favorites include; Blade Runner, Tron/Legacy, Terminator, Near Dark, Shaun of the Dead, and Alien/s.
